The reason I work for Merthyr and the Valleys Mind is because I want to make a difference to people experiencing mental health and emotional wellbeing needs.  Being a valley boy and having grown up in the Rhondda, means that I can relate to the need of people living within our local communities.

I have supported people for over twenty years, starting my career in Whitchurch Hospital Cardiff in 1993 before joining the Charity Sector in 2001.  I’ve held a range of Leadership and Management roles within the three leading mental health charities in Wales, Gofal, Hafal and now Mind.

I am passionate about leadership, change management and service development, I enjoy the challenges of doing things differently and ensuring that our services remain relevant, compassionate and delivered by quality people who care about who we are and what we do.  I am very proud to head up this organisation and being part of the Mind network in Wales.

The Carers STAR Project provides support and assistance to adult carers living in Merthyr Tydfil. The project provides information and advice and can signpost carers to a range of other local services.

The Role My Role is to designed to support those who are caring  for family or friends.  Carers provide unpaid care by looking after an ill, older or disabled family member, friend or partner.  Using the Carers  assessment  tool  we help carers to identify issues managing  their caring role.  We help to access information, advice and support that helps them to have a better quality  of life. Some carers miss out on vital support and struggle to cope with the demands of caring,  by  having  early intervention reduces the risk of carers reaching breaking point.

Reason I work for Mind I love my job and get a  deep sense of personal satisfaction and accomplishment  from the work that I undertake on behalf of Merthyr and the Valleys Mind. Our organisation  is full to the brim of  kind, compassionate  and caring individuals that truly have a passion to help people suffering from mental Health issues.  I am proud and honoured to be part of  this  team that not only cares for our  beneficiaries but care and supports their team  members.

Working at your own pace we will seek the best way for you to take back control of your life and choose to move forward in a positive direction.

Janice-Robinson
Janice Robinson

My name is Janice Robinson, and my role with Mind is as a counsellor.

You can contact me on 07958052861 or on my e mail j.jenkins37@ntlworld.com

The reason I work for Merthyr and the Valleys Mind is because until I met people who had and we’re suffering from mental ill health..I had not realised how devastating it could be, and how it can affect anyone regardless of who we are and what we do.

This helped me to decide to try and help people who may be struggling with the problems mental ill health can cause and for that reason I continue to do as much as I can to help to offer a safe and non judgemental environment to support people who come to Mind.

I am a firm believer that counselling helps because it offers a place to come to talk about the issues that may be causing problems in life where there is no judgement only respect, trust and the assurance that you have a counsellor who is fully trained and who will value what you need to talk about in confidence. I have been working as a counsellor for some years now and am still as motivated to help and assist anyone who may need help I would be pleased to have a short discussion with you before a decision is made to attend counselling if this would help.

When one of my clients tells me that they are practising the strategies that we have agreed and found that their mental health is improving, it makes me feel good and my work worthwhile.

Also, Merthyr and the Valleys Mind is a quite small organisation, it has a genuine supportive and open culture and encourages us to talk about and take care of our own mental health.
